Clearance Tips

Heading home for the break? Here's how to offload what you don't need to carry.

End of session means clearing out — whether you're vacating a hostel room or packing up off-campus lodging. Students' DigiMart is the fastest way to turn what you're not taking home into cash, instead of leaving it behind or dumping it.

1. List early, not last-minute

Put items up as soon as clearance dates are announced. When everyone sells in the final days, there's more competition and prices drop.

2. Know what sells fast

Mattresses, cooking equipment (gas burners, stoves), fans, small furniture, storage units and kitchen items move quickly at clearance time. Price them to sell rather than to maximize.

3. Price realistically for the rush

See the Fair Pricing Tips page for guidance — but clearance prices usually trend lower, since buyers know sellers are in a hurry. Factor that in so you're not caught off guard.

4. Bundle what you can

Grouping smaller items — kitchenware sets, study materials, decor — into one listing moves them faster than listing each one separately during a busy period.

5. Plan your handover window

Arrange pickup and payment before your actual travel day. Don't leave your only chance to sell to the morning you're moving out.

6. Meet safely, even under time pressure

Clearance week is exactly when corners get cut. Stick to the Safe Campus Meetups basics — daylight, public spots, inspect before paying.

7. Don't just dump what doesn't sell

If something doesn't move in time, consider giving it to incoming or continuing students instead of throwing it away — it's often easy to pass on cheaply to students just resuming.

Less to carry, less waste, a little extra cash before you travel — that's the idea.
